Prosthodontics: Full Mouth Reconstruction and Rehabilitation

Root canal treatment to save the root of a tooth

Prosthodontics is a dental speciality that focuses on more complex dental issues, which can range from severely decayed, broken or worn teeth, to complicated bites (malocclusions) which can compromise the person’s ability to talk or chew. These dental complications would require very delicate and sensitive procedures to be performed, which can have life transforming rewards for the patients/clients. Due to the sensitive nature of such treatments we refer prosthodontist specialists with at least three years of advanced training in teeth restoration and replacement. Full mouth reconstruction is commonly performed for patients with complex dental issues.

Full mouth reconstruction (or, Prosthodontics) is a dental speciality that focuses on complex dental issues, which can include severely decayed, broken or worn teeth, as well as complicated bites (malocclusions) which can inhibit speech and eating.
These dental complications require various delicate and sensitive reconstructive treatments to restore full health, form and function. Full mouth reconstruction transforms dental health to provide patients with an improved quality of life.

Time needed to complete full mouth restoration is different for each patient. Extensive dental damage requires greater treatment and a longer treatment time, whereas minimal damage can be corrected much more quickly. Naturally, each reconstructive treatment varies in length and scope. A dental implant, for example, involves two separate stages with a six-month wait in between. You can discuss the timescale for your individual treatment with your dentist.

  • Examination The full mouth reconstruction procedure begins with a thorough dental examination to assess the patient’s oral health, which includes, the periodontal tissue, jaw muscles, as well as the colour, shape, and size of the teeth. X-rays, photographs, and impressions of the teeth will also be taken with the help of a periodontist or orthodontist
  • Cleaning Before any reconstructive treatments can commence, the teeth must first be cleaned. The dentist begins by cleaning the healthy teeth, before moving onto the infected or damaged tooth. The gums will also be checked for gum disease. Gum disease must be treated before the full mouth construction goes ahead.
  • Reconstruction
    • Dental implants Used to restore damaged, decayed, or missing teeth, dental implants are often essential for full mouth rehabilitation. Implants are titanium screws placed into the jaw bone. They function as the tooth root and provide a lifetime of strength and support for the replacement crown. Implants restore full performance, and allow for comfortable biting and chewing.
    • Dental crowns Dental crowns (or caps) fit over injured or infected teeth to restore strength and shape. Crowns are strong and permanent restorations which also enhance appearance. They mimic the enamel of natural teeth for an attractive and realistic finish.
    • Porcelain veneers Porcelain veneers are the perfect solution to many dental imperfections, such as, crooked, discoloured and chipped teeth. They are wafer-thin, custom-made shells of porcelain bonded to the front surface of the teeth. Depending on your preferences, porcelain veneers can be made to whiten your teeth, or to match the existing shade or your enamel.
  • An attractive smile — full mouth reconstruction surgery can straighten crooked or misaligned teeth, whiten discoloured or yellow teeth, and even out gappy or gummy smiles.
  • Healthy teeth and gums — free from tooth decay and gum disease.
  • Improved confidence and self-esteem — your teeth will look and feel so much better!
  • A fully functioning set of teeth — you can eat, speak, and smile with confidence and ease.
  • Full chewing capacity — there’s no need to avoid hard or chewy foods. Get ready to enjoy a varied and nutritious diet!
  • No more dental complications or imperfections — missing, broken, damaged, infected, and crooked teeth are fully restored!
  • Improved quality of life — a beautiful smile and good dental health can help the way you feel about yourself and your life, and can even improve your relationships with friends and family.

The exact cost of full mouth reconstruction depends on the extent of your individual treatment. Extensive restorative work is likely to be costly. The range of techniques and materials involved, as well as the replacement teeth themselves, can quickly mount up the price. Exact figures of the full mouth reconstruction cost in the UK can range from £ 20 000 up to £ 50 000.

The Dentist, Hygienist, Dental Nurses & Especially the Receptionist staff are very Polite, Friendly & most importantly they try to fit you in quickly in the event of an emergency. Recently I couldn’t get the time of work for an emergency appointment for my 81 year old Mum so I called an Uber for her & told the receptionist this. The young Black Lady called me when she ordered & place my Mother in a cab – so she went above & beyond her duties with a lot of Customer Care & Respect for my Mother- Thank You so much

I lost my two front teeth whilst at school and had complications for years. Unfortunately I ended up needing an implant – which I had been avoiding! I wish I had done it sooner. Dr Patel was fantastic and guided me through each stage. He was always contactable to answer any queries or concerns. Very happy with the end result and would reccomend.

I have recently finished an invisalign program with Pooja at dulwich dental office and couldn’t be happier. The treatment was easy and pain free and the results are great. Pooja’s experience and friendliness made me feel at ease throughout. I would 100% recommend for anyone considering similar treatment.

Dentist Pooja Pillay is excellent and was very patient with me as I I took a long time (years!) deciding whether or not to take the plunge and have Invisalign to straighten my teeth. It didn’t take too long and was easier than I thought it would be. Pooja kept a close eye on how it was all progressing and we even went a bit longer with it just to really perfect the result. I’m delighted with the outcome. Everything was included in the price, even the extra aligners and appointments when we decided to go on a bit longer. All staff at the practice have been excellent. Highly recommend.

I had my Invisaligns done by Dr Pillay and she really took the time to make sure my teeth are lovely and straight. She has always been available with any queries or follow up treatment I needed – and made me feel well looked after from the beginning and end of the treatment. I really recommend seeing her if you want to get Invisaligns done.

I am undergoing a course of Invisalign treatment with Dulwich Dental Office and I am so pleased with the results, even at this early stage. It is great that I can take the braces out to eat and clean my teeth. I am looking forward to the end result.

Sienna M.

The team are great. Friendly, reliable and kept my teeth on the ‘straight n’ narrow’ for years

Sarwar K.

I’ve been having implant treatment with Sanjay for almost a year and he has been great through the whole process as I am not fond of dentists. Today was the final session and the crowns were fitted. I’m really pleased with the work and they look and feel great and are subtle as you can see from the attached pic I just took. I’m more than happy to recommend him and his work!
